What We Know
This one just landed on our radar, and it's bigger than a single adaptation. AMC is launching The Grapes of Wrath as the first season of a new anthology franchise called Great American Stories, with each future season built around a different celebrated novel, historical moment, or American narrative. AMC Networks has described the franchise as a way of bringing the country's most enduring stories to the screen — something the network sees as core to its identity, going back to its roots as American Movie Classics.
Casting hasn't been announced yet, and there's no premiere date beyond a general 2027 target, with production expected to begin in early 2027. We'll update as more comes out.
About the Book
Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel follows the Joad family as they're forced off their Oklahoma farm during the Dust Bowl and head west to California in search of work and stability. It's one of the most widely read American novels of the 20th century, holding a 4.03 average across more than a million Goodreads ratings, and remains a defining portrait of the Great Depression and the gap between America's haves and have-nots.
