Our Take

Grady Hendrix masterfully blends nostalgic 80s pop culture with genuinely terrifying horror in this unholy hybrid of Beaches and The Exorcist. Set during the height of the Satanic Panic, the novel captures the essence of teenage friendship while delivering a fresh take on demonic possession. Hendrix walks a fine line between comedy and horror, creating a story that's simultaneously heartwarming and deeply unsettling. The authentic period details—from Madonna lyrics to wine coolers—transport readers back to an era of big hair and heavy metal, while the horror elements pack a visceral punch. What sets this novel apart is its emotional core: beneath the supernatural terror lies a touching exploration of loyalty, sacrifice, and the bonds that define us during our formative years. Fans of Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix, The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix, or anyone seeking horror with heart will find My Best Friend's Exorcism an unforgettable journey through friendship and fear. Perfect for readers who appreciate horror that makes you both scream and cry.
